Timberwolves Owner Glen Taylor: Kevin Love Trade ‘Likely’

Kevin LoveMinnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that a deal that would send star big man Kevin Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers is “likely” by August 23rd or 24th.

August 23rd is the first day that this year’s number 1 overall selection, Andrew Wiggins, is available to be traded after signing his rookie contract with the Cavaliers.

The Cavs signed Wiggins to a 4 year deal on July 24th, but league rules for rookie contracts stipulate that a rookie may not be traded for at least 30 days following the signing of the contract. This rule explains why a deal may not have already been done.

“I’m saying it’s most likely because Kevin has made it pretty clear that that’s what he wants to do,” Taylor told the Pioneer Press, saying that he would of prefer to keep the All-Star, Love, in Minnesota if at all possible.

ESPN’s Marc Stein reported last week that a deal between the Wolves and Cavs was essentially a done deal, and now Stein is reporting that the Wolves are targeting Philadelphia power forward, Thaddeus Young, as a potential replacement for Kevin Love.

The deal between the Cavs and Timberwolves, which can’t be formally acknowledged until at least the 23rd of August, would unite Kevin Love with Olympic teammate Lebron James.

The Lebron James, Kevin Love duo would propel Cleveland from a playoff team to a genuine Finals contender. The two All-Stars, along with young, talented point guard, Kyrie Irving, are poised to make a strong run into the postseason, and try to bring Cleveland the championship that has managed to elude the city for so many years.
