Vin Scully to Return for 2015 For Dodgers

LA DodgersLongtime Los Angeles Dodgers’ announcer and Hall of Famer Vin Scully will return to the broadcast booth in 2015 for his 66th season.

The team broke the news Tuesday on “Vin Scully Talking Microphone Night” through a skit on the stadium’s video board during the second inning against the Atlanta Braves.

The skit began with broadcaster Alanna Rizzo announcing she had breaking news, then introduced pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu, who made the announcement in Korean. Then, outfielder Yasiel Puig took his turn, and translated the announcement into Spanish. Finally, the bit went to infielder Justin Turner who made the announcement in English, provoking a barrage of cheers from the Dodgers’ faithful.

The video board then showed the 86 year old Scully acknowledging the crowd from the broadcast booth, hand over his heart.

Vin Scully has been calling games for the Dodgers organization since the year 1950, and has been the organizations primary play-by-play man since 1953. Keep in mind that his was when the team was still the Brooklyn Dodgers. Before the 1958 season Scully accompanied the Dodgers in their move to Los Angeles, and was eventually enshrined to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982.

“It is very difficult to say goodbye,” Scully said in a statement. “God willing, I will be back next year. Over the years, I have been blessed to have so many friends, including those that sit in the stands and listen as well as those at home, who listen and watch. It is just too hard to say goodbye to all these friends. Naturally, there will come a time when I will have to say goodbye, but I’ve soul-searched, and this is not the time.”

Vin Scully has touched the lives of so many baseball fans, especially those who have cheered for the Dodgers over the years. Hopefully, he will continue to make that impact with his return in 2015 to the broadcast the teams he cares so deeply for.
